Using HSA/FSA (TrueMed)Updated 16 days ago

Can I use my HSA/FSA funds at checkout?

Yes — eligible purchases can be made using HSA/FSA funds through TrueMed.

TrueMed helps determine eligibility and provides documentation needed for reimbursement.

What is an HSA?

An HSA (Health Savings Account) is a tax-advantaged savings account used to pay for qualified medical expenses. HSAs are typically available to individuals enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP).

What is an FSA?

An FSA (Flexible Spending Account) is an employer-sponsored benefit account that also allows you to use pre-tax funds for qualified medical expenses.

What are the key differences between an HSA and an FSA?

HSA

  • Requires enrollment in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP)

  • Funds can roll over year to year

  • Account is owned by the individual and is portable between jobs

  • Contributions may be tax-deductible and can grow tax-free

FSA

  • Does not require an HDHP

  • Usually must be used within the plan year (or a limited grace period)

  • Account is employer-owned and typically not portable

  • Limited investment options

Can I just use my HSA/FSA card at checkout?

In some cases, yes — but for the smoothest experience, we generally recommend using a personal credit or debit card and then submitting for reimbursement.

This typically provides the highest likelihood of success depending on your HSA/FSA administrator.

How does TrueMed work?

After you enter your payment details, TrueMed will guide you through a short health survey to determine eligibility.

If approved:

  • Your payment will be completed after the survey

  • You’ll receive a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) by email within several days

  • You can use that LMN to support reimbursement through your HSA/FSA provider

We recommend saving your LMN and receipt for at least 3 years for your records.

How long does HSA/FSA reimbursement take?

Most HSA/FSA administrators approve reimbursements within a few days once you submit your documentation, but timing can vary depending on your provider.

What if I don’t have enough funds in my HSA/FSA account?

No problem — you may still be able to submit for partial reimbursement.

For example, if your purchase is $100 and your HSA/FSA account has $60 available, you may be able to reimburse $60 using tax-free funds and pay the remaining amount normally.

What if I don’t have an HSA/FSA card?

You can still place your order using your personal credit card. After purchase, TrueMed will provide the documentation needed to submit for reimbursement through your HSA/FSA provider.

Am I a good fit for this payment option?

This option may be a good fit if you:

  • Have an active HSA or FSA account, and

  • Are purchasing products to support general wellness or help address a health-related goal

If you’re unsure about eligibility, we recommend checking with your HSA/FSA provider.
